Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurveda traces its origins to the Rig Veda, the world's oldest surviving book in an Indo-European language. The Rig Veda, 3000 B.C., is a cosmological treatise that addresses not only the nature of life but also the foundations of health and causes of disease, including the three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha—and the uses of herbs for healing diseases, both physical and psychological ailments.

The science of health formulated by these seers was as intensely spiritual as it was practical. For those of us who are tired of the schism between mysticism and science, Ayurveda offers a comprehensive system that connects all the dots in a way that is both timeless and eternal. It is the only approach to healing that has always taken into account not only the effects of climate, diet, and life style on health but also the subtle ways in which well being is impacted by emotional and spiritual issues. Through a wide range of procedures that include the energetics of food, herbs, and spices; massage and detoxification; as well as yoga and meditation, Ayurveda presents strategies for releasing energies that are blocked as well as for improving longevity.

Welcome to the world of Indian herbs and spices.

Ayur Blood Elixir, 4 oz.

Blood cleansing is a very important part of health since the quality of the blood determines the ability to provide nutrients needed by every cell in the body. The main herb in the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia used for cleansing the blood is manjistha, a deeply red root that has exquisite properties, enabling it to remove excess pitta without side effects. Since blood circulates throughout the body, the action is systemic and improvements in complexion, liver health, kidney function, and stamina should occur. To manjistha, Indian sarsaparilla has been added as an additional support for the lymphatic system, hibiscus for the heart, guduchi for detoxification, and ashwagandha for neuroregeneration and strength. This elixir is also rich in antioxidants, and being composed of some of the world"s best rasayana herbs, it aids regeneration and rejuvenation.

Ingredients: Proprietary blend of Manjistha Root, Rubia cordifolia, Anantamool Root, Hemidesmus indicus, Hibiscus Flower, Hibiscus sabdariffa, Guduchi Stem, Tinospora corifolia, Ashwagandha Root, Withania somnifera, and Jaggery in Distilled Water, Organic Alcohol, and Vegetable Glycerin.

Ayur DeCalc, 4 oz.

Exposure to fluoride has been pervasive. Even if one"s drinking water is not fluoridated, salt, and even milk, are often fluoridated. Of course, fluoride is also found in many dental and medical products, not just toothpaste but also bonding agents and even restoration materials. It is also used in food packaging so the odds of never having been exposed are quite low. Fluoride is poisonous, even at one part per million, it is toxic. It causes fluorosis and calcification, especially of the pineal gland but also in other parts of the body. The herbs in this formula have all exhibited the capacity to reduce calcification. Two of the herbs are tropical fruits: tamarind and haritaki, one of the ingredients in the famous Triphala formula. The third is chanca piedra, Spanish for "stone breaker". IBesides breaking up stones, it is hepatoprotective, something we need after exposure to toxins since the liver takes the brunt of toxicity. Use gradually over a period of two months, starting with very small doses and increasing if there are no signs of discomfort. It can be combined with our Tulsi Tea or Hibiscus Tea as well as Triphala.

Ingredients: Proprietary Blend of fresh Tamarindus indica fruit, Terminalia chebula fruit, and Phyllanthus amarus leaf extract in honey, distilled water, organic alcohol, and vegetable glycerin.

Guduchi Extract, 2 oz.

Guduchi is one of the most famous detoxifying herbs in the Ayurvedic pharmacopeia. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and improves cognitive functioning and recall, but its main claim to fame is its power to reduce ama (toxins) and even to protect the body from the harmful effects of toxic substances. It enjoys the status of a rasayana or rejuvenative herb and was traditionally used for three years in order to promote longevity and imperviousness to toxins.

Guduchi can be used long-term to reduce symptoms related to excess pitta and to kindle agni, i.e. substituting toxic fire with purifying fire.

Tamarind Extract, 2 oz.

This extract was added with the intention of offering a remedy for intoxication, but it was soon learned that the fruit has countless additional benefits. Tamarind is originally from Africa but is grown throughout the Caribbean and Asia as well as on some Pacific Islands. The bulk of imports come from the Antilles.

Tamarind is used mainly to improve digestion but the mechanism whereby it achieves this power seems to imply that tamarind is anti-inflammatory and detoxifying, being used for such serious poisoning as that caused by ingesting datura. It restores sensation in certain kinds of paralysis. It is also used for gingivitis as well as to promote excretion of fluoride.
